About TOKS The TOKS meeting is arranged for students by students. This is where students in the field of organic chemistry come together in a relaxed and informal atmosphere to present and discuss their current research. Organic chemistry is in this context broadly defined and covers topics such as synthesis, analysis, natural compounds, spectroscopy and molecular modelling. Those institutions educating organic chemists in Denmark, i.e. AU, FARMA, SDU, DTU and SCIENCE, takes turn hosting the TOKS meeting. The first TOKS meeting was hosted by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Aarhus in November 1994. The initiators of the first meeting were Kurt Gothelf and Mogens Johannsen, who at that time were Ph.D.-students at the University of Aarhus.
The idea of the meeting was to create a forum, where master students, Ph.D.-students and post docs in the field of organic chemistry from Denmark and nearby areas, could meet and share experience and try to present their own work for a larger audience. An important aspect was that the meeting was held on the students' premises, but their advisors were also welcome to participate. A phrase from the first invitation is: "It is the idea to keep the arrangement in a relaxed atmosphere, where there is room for even trivial questions".
